No inspire for me

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

I also got a second offer from another school with the same sort of financial details as the first. I’m sticking to my first school, on my little bro’s advice. He’s already there and I trust his judgment in these matters.

Otherwise, a bit tired. My beloved picked up a nasty cold from the groom at the wedding we went to. Combined with the twelve hours of activities across two days of 9o something degree weather, he’s a bit worse for wear.

Me, I think I have a milder version, so I’ve just been tired. And hungry. I mean really hungry. A bit unusual in its ferocity, even for me.

Off to the city tomorrow for some training. Really, only going to see what they say, so I can make sure it jives with what we tell our people. Otherwise, it just confuses everyone.

Can’t wait for the weekend, even though we’re going on the stupid boat. Will be out last free weekend before he starts his job. Then, I expect his hours will be long. My own will be boring, but at least the pool stays open till 8.=) After the last week of August, I’ll be in class, so I decided to enjoy and relax on this downtime.

I’ll miss him while he’s at work though, because I’m a big goofball newlywed like that..

As for my blog, me no inspired now. News same and depressing. Also, I have to stop reading about Tom Cruise, before Top Gun is ruined forever….

Law School and Me

Monday, June 27th, 2005

Well kids, looks like I got in. To one of my prime choices.

They hooked me up financially too, which is all good.

Since I’m a well trained corporate monkey, I won’t say what school. But I will say I am very happy tonight.

Buffalo Wings

We’re in Buffalo. And yes, the wings are that good…

More to come when we return.

Oh yea. The Falls rocked though…

Corporate Greed

My friend Patti wrote this entry on a recent supreme court decision around eminent domain.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw the article. This is yet another danger of stacking the court with conservatives. They mess with property, religion, speech, and gay rights. This is not good.

Property rights is a tricky issue, but this is one decision I do not agree with.

I agree with the plaintiffs, who said:
“They argued that cities have no right to take their land except for projects with a clear public use, such as roads or schools, or to revitalize blighted areas.”

I grew up in Queens, by the recently expanded monstrosity of Queens Center Mall. Just imagine if one day the government had been like, “sorry, we know you live here. But we’d like to put in a Gap.”

Oh yea, that’s a really comforting thought.

Tag, I’m it

My friend Mobtown tagged me with a book meme. I have to look up meme after I finish this.

Number of books I own:
Hundreds, if not a thousand. I still have boxes of them in my mom’s basement. I need a house with a library to set them all free again!

Last books bought:
- Free Speech in an Open Society by Rodney Smolla
- And a book on arguing with conservatives, which I can’t find since I cleaned.=) Actually, its about conservative doctrines and liberal responses following Bush’s election run. But I call it arguing with conservatives because right now, all I can do is sputter when a right winger goes right on me and stays there (no, I’m not naming names)…I have anger management issues, and a complete inability to argue articulately with people who don’t agree with me. I’m working on it, ‘k?
- Also, I just discovered the library in our complex. So the current book I borrowed is “The Last Amateurs” by John Feinstein. It’s about Division I basketball. And yes, I do have a diverse set of interests.

Last Book Read:
- Pour Your Heart Into It by Howard Schultz.
- The entire Alvin Maker series by Orson Scott Card

Five Books that Mean a Lot to Me:
- Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand. This is the closest I get to a bible. I’ve read it many times, especially when the corporate world crushes my spirit. I recommend it for anyone interested in capitalism.
- The Vision, by Tom Brown, because it was my first philosophy type book while in Catholic High School and I loved it. Loved it, loved it.
- The Way of The Peaceful Warrior, by Dan Millman, because at the time I read it, it told me it was ok for spirituality not to be such hard work and be just about life. Also, I got to see him speak during our honeymoon and he was right on.
- The Beach, by Alex Garland, because it was so existential and hit the right spots for that period of my life
- The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, because of an old Zen teacher
