Not my house

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Let me just get this “straight.”

You have a senator soliciting gay sex and you are “disappointed.”
You have a lying partisan attorney general and you feel he got treated “unfairly?”

Are you kidding me?

The ice caps are melting

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Oh, I know. Let’s fight over who gets to access the newly uncovered deposite of oil. Now that those pesky ice caps are receding, it will be easier to drill. Maybe we can fight an artic war, and use the rebel’s strategy on the ice planet Hoth.
Future generations won’t mind at all. They can use the warmer tempratures to work o their tans.

I have a simple question. Instead of fighting over who gets to exploit the artic, what if we wroksd together to protect it.

Nah, that would be too simple.

I am disgusted. I will link the article from home, but it’s on cnn.

The Exchange

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

For many, many reasons, I think the Exchange is one of the most beautiful buildings in downtown.

What made me snap this picture were the shadows. I’m not a huge fan of shadow in my other pictures, but here it really caught my eye.

As the week has gone on, many of my photos have been covered in shadow I realized it’s a fact of life in downtown, given the density of the buildings. And we really have some of the shortest buildings in the city here. I had never really thought about it before.

Photo Essay

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Quite by accident, I discovered I really, really like photography. Also by accident, I realize I can whip out my iPhone for a picture at any point in the day. I think it’s the closest I’ll ever get to being a photo journalist.

So I decided to take as many pictures as possible of things I find interesting. Mostly, they’ll be in downtown NY, so for those of you who live and work here, they may not be so interesting. But other times, I’ll grab a few photos from the rest of the city, as I get the chance.

So for a while, I’m going to try to post at least one every few days. I hope you enjoy them.

Boundaries

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

At work today I listened to the theme from jurassic park, which i stuck on my iphone in a fit of nostalgia

I remember being a teenager and pulling my door shut, one hand gently cradling the brightly colored disc. Going to the square button on my black stereo and letting the 3 disc holder slide out. Putting in the disk and cranking up the volume, conducting my imaginary orchestra as the notes soared higher and higher, exultant and free.

This was before I loved opera, before I would listen to classical. This was before I figured out that all of JOhn Williams works eventually begin to sound like a repetitive derivative of each other. This was when I was still excited and free to enjoy my music at top volume, in the days before I knew anything about theory, read reviews or talked to other people about it ro get their judgements.
At the time, it was just the freedom of the music, soaring higher, without geographical boundaries, past the walls that trapped me in my house in Queens.
