Special Teams, or why Sal Alosi is an ass

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Special teams are one of the more terrifying aspects of playing. Basically, you start out at the opposite end of the field from your opponent and then run into them as fast as humanly possible. Whether on offense or defense, you’re bringing it all and you’re doing it at the maximum speed that you can. The resulting collisions are painful, damaging and rapid.

I was shocked when watching the replay of Sal Alosi tripping the Dolphins cornerback Carroll during punt coverage. I was even more surprised to learn Alosi was a former football player. What player in his right mind would do that? There is enough happening on the field; having to worry about behavior offsides is a ridiculous concept.

Alosi’s been suspended.
Really, he should be fired. That was juvenile, immature and he could have really, really hurt Carroll.

What did you think? What about his suspension? Enough, under-reaction, or an overreaction?
